The 10 Best Job Search Websites

  1. LinkedIn
  2. The Company Website
  3. Glassdoor
  4. Google Jobs
  5. Indeed
  6. ZipRecruiter
  7. SimplyHired
  8. Flexjobs
  9. WeWorkRemotely
  10. AngelList
  11. Honorable mentions: ATS like Lever and Greenhouse

Based on a combination of internal data and anecdotal reports, we’ve found these to be the 10  best job search websites. We’ve outlined the advantages of the best of the best job search boards in this article. However, different job search websites cater to different roles and goals. For example, LinkedIn is terrific for networking with recruiters but is cluttered with stale listings that get hundreds of applicants in a few hours. Lever is a fantastic job board for software engineers and data scientists, but it doesn’t host many less technical roles like sales or marketing.

Candidates should not rely on just one job board. While you don’t need to use every board, you can find far more roles by searching multiple boards, especially if your target role is more niche. If you only search one job board, you may only find a handful of jobs that are a perfect fit. Once you’ve exhausted the list, you may end up applying to jobs that are just an “ok” fit because you don’t see any better options on that particular board. But you could have likely found many more “perfect fit” jobs on other boards. You don’t have to carefully comb every one of the best job search websites. At a bare minimum, just using a boolean search for keywords and using whatever job board appears with the best match is fine. But broadening your search to multiple job boards will help you find more opportunities and land a job faster.

The Best Job Search Websites By Role, Backed by Data

The best job search websites depend on the role. Lever is a fantastic job search website for software engineers, but it hosts very few sales jobs.

At Pathrise, we’ve helped 2,700+ job seekers land jobs over 6+ years. Every job seeker in our program tracks their job board used, interviews, and other key data. We analyzed all our data to break down the best job board by role.

  • Software Engineering (SWE): Company website, Greenhouse, Lever
  • Data Science: Lever, Company website, Simply Hired
  • Engineering: Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn
  • IT and Cybersecurity: SimplyHired, Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn
  • Marketing: Glassdoor, Company website, Indeed, SimplyHired
  • Product, Strategy, and Operations (PSO): ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, Company website
  • Sales: Glassdoor
  • The Best Overall: LinkedIn

LinkedIn is Undefeated (But Overcrowded)

If you could only use one job search website, it should be LinkedIn. While our data shows that LinkedIn does not have the highest conversion rates from applications to offer, LinkedIn’s popularity makes it essential for finding a job. 97% of HR and staffing professionals use LinkedIn for hiring. Even if you’re relying on in-person networking to find a job, LinkedIn will still be part of the hiring process. It’s simply unavoidable.

With over 49 million users and 15 million jobs, the other 4 best job search websites don’t even come close. If those numbers sound lopsided to you, you’re spot on. LinkedIn’s popularity makes it highly competitive and often overwhelming. There are far fewer jobs than job seekers trying to stand out, often with high-effort strategies like long posts or daily content. Companies also often use LinkedIn jobs as a promotional tool for roles, meaning the “recently posted” jobs might not be as recent as they say, crowding the platform with old posts. This makes LinkedIn understandably intimidating. But since LinkedIn will be used in the hiring process, job seekers still have no choice but to use it. Luckily, you don’t have to compose lengthy post essays or gain a thousand followers to get hired.

Best job search websites

Glassdoor: The Best Job Search Website for Company Reviews

While less popular than LinkedIn, Glassdoor still hosts millions of jobs. What makes Glassdoor stand out is its valuable insight into interviews, job market trends, and company culture. Glassdoor users leave reviews of companies’ interview processes at top companies, which often include real interview questions asked in the interview. Users also post salaries, company work culture, and other invaluable information.

Some Glassdoor users report a slightly higher conversion rate than on LinkedIn, perhaps due to less competition. However, the difference is likely not very significant, especially when considering that jobs are often posted to LinkedIn and Glassdoor, as well as the much higher volume of jobs on LinkedIn.

Google Jobs: The Best Job Aggregator

Unlike typical job search websites like LinkedIn, Google Job is a job “Aggregator”. It gathers all of the job postings on the Internet and lists them under “Google Jobs” when you make a Google search. All you need to do is type in the name of the role you want into Google and roles will appear. Not only does this reduce job search time, but it allows you to make extremely specific job searches using Boolean search, or even just quotation marks around a specific job title. We highly recommend you supplement your LinkedIn job searches with Google Jobs.

However, Google Jobs automatically uses your current location as a factor in the job search. So you may want to turn off location sharing if you’re searching for a job outside of your current area.

Indeed: A Job Aggregator with Intuitive UI

Similar to LinkedIn and Glassdoor, Indeed is one of the largest job search websites with familiar interface. They gather postings from all across the Internet. While not extraordinary, it can still be a helpful supplement to LinkedIn.

ZipRecruiter: Efficient Job Matching

Powered by AI job matching, ZipRecruiter connects job seekers with hiring companies. The company partners with many of the other best job search websites, putting their posts on multiple boards. However, the “Phil” emails and AI support do not have very high reviews. Like Indeed, it can be a useful supplement.

Simply Hired: An Effective Aggregator

Another aggregator of job postings on the web, Simply Hired hosts thousands of US jobs. Like LinkedIn, SimplyHired offers a “Simply Apply” option that allows job seekers to apply with just one click. However, we do not recommend using simply apply by itself. You should always apply on the company website as well.

Best Job Search Websites for Remote Jobs

  • On LinkedIn, more than one in five job posts were remote (8.4%) or hybrid (13.5%). All of the other best job search websites like Indeed and Glassdoor also allow you to filter for remote jobs.

The Company Website: Better than The Best Job Search Websites

While job search websites may be convenient, our data suggests that applying directly on the company website may have the highest conversation rate of all. We recommend applying directly on the company website whenever possible.

While Job boards like LinkedIn and Glassdoor usually include links to the company website, these job boards are still incentivized to keep you on their platform. Options like “LinkedIn easy apply” may be tempting as they take less than a few minutes. However, applying directly on the company website will usually give your application a better chance of being seen. Company websites will also offer the option to be notified of new job postings relevant to roles you’ve applied to in the past. These post notifications are often sent out before the job post goes live on LinkedIn, allowing you to apply before the competition. This can also let you stay up to date on roles at your dream company.

But like all the best job search websites, company career websites host plenty of outdated job postings, often many months old. Just because a job posting is on a company website, does not mean it is active. We recommend to only apply to job postings no more than 1-2 weeks old. The fresher the better. Job search websites give you the ability to filter for recent posts, making them more convenient than using job search websites for sourcing. But we still recommend always applying on the company website whenever possible.

The Best Job Search Website for Networking: LinkedIn

While it may be harder to stand out to jobs with thousands of applicants, LinkedIn allows you to stand out to recruiters. Hiring managers and recruiters use LinkedIn to search for talent by keywords. You can use optimized keywords in your LinkedIn bio, title, and headline (like your skills and desired role) to appear in recruiters’ searches.

Posting on LinkedIn can be equally effective. Just one simple (but strategically written) LinkedIn post can help you stand out to recruiters and get hired. We’ve found that the most effective LinkedIn post to get you a job quickly is not professional educational content. While educational content builds your authority and following long-term, it’s not a viable strategy for professionals seeking a new job now.

A simple post outlining your skills and professional status is most effective. Sometimes referred to as a “layoff post” or “open to work post”, we recommend you make a LinkedIn post outlining your career status, experiences, and goals that gives recruiters a reason to check out your profile. This post can work just like a resume, giving the recruiter everything they need to make a decision.

When recruiters search for a specific role like “Marketing data analyst in tech”, your post explaining that you were laid off from a marketing data analyst role and are now seeking a new role may appear in their search results and feed. This simple post style can be even more than getting your resume in front of a recruiter.

LinkedIn’s algorithm is also more likely to show your profile if you post actively. While a detailed personal story or professional content can have the most impact, your posts don’t have to be long to boost you in the algorithm. Posting simple comments, likes, or reposts with a short caption a few times a week is enough to get far more profile views.
